So how do you get reviews?

Hi,

I submitted my app and sent out a few promo codes to the people who had Tap Forms on their wish lists a few days ago. But I'm wondering what happens next?

Nobody has contacted me or left any comment saying they would review my app. Are people really doing iTunes App Store reviews after they get a promo code?

Just wondering.

Thanks,

Brendan

Hey Brendan, when you give

Hey Brendan, when you give out promo codes to people they should be review it but some people don't. I still have to make a couple reviews for apps I got codes for (which I'll do ASAP), but honest people should make a review if the dev is nice enough to give them a code.

Hi Mini Me,

Thanks for the reply.

Ok, so it's pretty much on the honour system. Well, I like to believe in the honesty of people so I hope the people I gave the codes to aren't just trying to get apps for free, but truly trying to help out in exchange for the codes.

Thanks,

Brendan

Reviews.

Well yes some people just want promo codes for free apps... But personally I believe in reviewing almost every app I download... I review apps either to apreciate or to give suggestions to the developer...

I keep updating my reviews as the Developer keeps updating the Apps.

Don't use this site. Do a giveway on Toucharcade.com or something, because 99% of people here just take the code and do nothing in terms of a review.

No reviews yet

Hi,

So I gave away a bunch of promo codes on this site and there are about 6 more people requesting promo codes from me. Some have said they'll review my app. Nobody yet who I gave codes to previously has reviewed my app. I've been checking patiently every day on the App Store, but so far nothing yet.

Is it really true that 99% of the people are just taking the codes and running? I don't think I can support such a system if that's the case. If at least some of the people who I gave codes to had reviewed my app then I'd be more inclined to give out more. But for now, I'm afraid I'm going to have to post my promo codes elsewhere.

Thanks for the opportunity to try out this site.

Was your review from BillyJon? That's the only new review I've seen today.

Thanks again!

A general comment about application software testing and the turn around time it takes to give qualified and comprehensive test results:

I am new to this site, so I do not wish to disrepect anyone, but I joined not because I necessarily want "free" applications for my phone - it is because I am have been in software applications for a very long time (think when COBOL was cutting edge) and have been involved in software programming in some fashion from assembler to java, and am fascinated by each emerging technology and platform. Getting promo codes to get apps so I can get a feel for these platforms is the reward I get in return for good solid testing feedback to developers. I'm sure there are many other testers on this site that may feel the same way.

My two cents: Application developers who believe they will get a truthful review - and a quality one - in just a few days after they issue a promo code will not. It takes at LEAST a week, perhaps two, of field use (in the case of utility and productivity apps) to ensure enough use case scenarios have been met for a tester to offer a quality and comprehensive review. Someone who receives a promo code and turns around in the next day or two and blogs or posts on iTunes their "reviews" are doing the developer a great disservice. This may not be the case in categories such as "games", where you either like the game or you do not, but certainly true for the apps that have real world use as smartphone software.

I'll shut up now.

Hi Imaginos, I understand it

Hi Imaginos,

I understand it may take people a while to get to a review. My original query was simply a "what happens next" inquiry. I guess I expected a little bit of communication such as "thanks, I got your code and will be trying it out in the next week or so". But nothing like that happened and as time went on (2 weeks later), still no reviews. Well, there was one, but I'm not sure if it was from someone here since people tend to use different user names on different places. Anyway, I don't really want to harp on this topic anymore. It was just an experiment to see what would happen.

Thanks,

Brendan
